Hypertrophic and keloid scars are abnormal scars that develop after wound healing in some individuals.
A keloid is characterised by an overgrowth scar tissue beyond the borders of the original wound.
Hypertrophic scars consist of an abundance of scar tissue confined to the origianl wound site.
Either of these scars after an injury, may be a problem especially as it may restrict range of motion, and cause pain and itchiness. In addition it is a constant visible reminder of the trauma endured by the patient.
Several treatment and prevention modalities exist, such as surgical excision, radiation, laser treatment, intralesional corticosteroid injections, cryotherapy, pressure therapy and various topical and oral medications.
Silicone has been proposed as the main form of noninvasive treatment. It has shown significant improvement in skin tone and elasticity.

It contains pracaxi oil derived from the seed of the pracaxi tree found in th Amazon rainforest. It has anti inflammatory , anti oxidant, antibacterial and anti fungal properties. It is also useful in psoriasis and rosacea.
It is usually applied twice a day for 3-4 months. The results have shown a reduction in color intensity, improvement in texture or smoothness and scar pigment intensity.
At custom made medicine we can add other active ingredients if needed. Ingredients like niacinamide to soften the dark colour, corticosteroids to reduce initial thickened irritated scar tissue ; tranilast and/or tamoxifen, or lipoic acid for keloid or hypertrophic scars.
